We started in 1955 in an old one story building near the Chickahominy River. At that time it was a tea room serving ham biscuits and homemade pie as well as selling antiques, gas, and cigarettes.

After a robbery, Miss Melinda found this property on Jamestown Road. The bank hesitated to give her a loan because it was too far out in the country. They now have a branch a block away! The building was ready in 1962 and was constructed of new materials and architectural salvage from the area. The paneling in the back of the shop was from the plantation home Carter's Grove, acquired when the owner did some remodeling.

Not only do we serve great southern food, but our three story antique gift shop has furniture, lamps, pictures, mirrors, unique gift items, and jewelry as well as handbags, jackets and seasonal merchandise

Breakfast hours are:

8:30 - 10:30 Monday-Thursday

7:30 - 10:15 Friday, Saturday & Sunday

The best time to come is when we open the door and you can usually get right in!

Lunch hours are:

11:30 - 2:30 Monday-Friday (excluding Holidays)

11:45 - 2:15 Saturday, Sunday & Holidays

When visiting us please take a moment to say hello to Melinda our gift shop cat and mascot. Melinda, like all of the mascots who have preceded her has been trained to stay on the gift shop side and NEVER to venture into our restaurant or kitchen!! We are more than happy to take Melinda to her room in the event a guest has a cat allergy or just doesn't like cats!! Please let us know and we will be happy to accomadate you.

Reservations are accepted only for the first seating of lunch (see hours), until that list is full. You must call after 7AM on the day you are coming and we will take your name. Your entire party must be here when we begin seating. Breakfast is first come first served.

Waiting times vary but we do have places to sit. Our unique gift shop offers a collection of hand selected merchandise including seasonal, home decor, jewelry & accessories, garden, and floral items

When necessary, during busy meal periods, small parties may need to share our larger tables.

When checking in, please inform the front desk if you desire not to share. This may increase the time you have to wait for a table!
